F.A.Q.

  • Where do you instruct? – Our classes are primarily taught at Tactical Services in Bloomington (classroom portion) and at Oak Ridge Sportsman’s Club (range portion) in Mackinaw. We are also willing to travel around Central Illinois to host private classes!  If you would like to host our class, please contact us.

  • Is the class open to anyone? – Yes!  As long as you are able to legally and safely operate a firearm, you are welcome to take a class with us.  Everyone is welcome regardless of gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

  • How do I register? -Simply select the course you wish to attend on the left pane of this website, scroll to the bottom of the course page, and there is an online registration system where all you have to do is enter your name, email, and phone number.  Click the “Register” button and you are good to go!

  • Are there any prerequisites? – For the Illinois Concealed Carry class, there are no training prerequisites.  Just be able to legally use a firearm in Illinois, and meet all of the state’s requirements.

  • What pistol / equipment should I bring? – Our recommendation is to bring whatever gear that you plan to use when you are lawfully carrying.  For example, if you plan to use an inside the waistband holster, bring that to use.  We do not allow off the body carry for the class (purses, backpacks, etc.).

For ammunition, we do not recommend the use of personal defense rounds for the class.  They are more expensive and not necessary for the class.  We do recommend that if you decide to use personal defense rounds when you are carrying to test them out at the range to make sure your gun cycles properly.

We do not allow any ammunition that is designed to penetrate steel, tracer rounds, or incendiary rounds.

  • I’m military / a LEO, can I wear my duty gear? – First of all, thank you for your service!  And yes, you can wear your duty gear, but if you plan to be carrying while off duty, please wear what you normally would while off duty.  Train how you plan to carry.

  • I have a physical disability, can I take a class? – Yes!  We will work with you to determine your needs in the classroom and on the range.  As long as you can safely operate your weapon, you are welcome here with us!

  • Do you allow spectators? – We allow spectators in our classrooms as space and occupancy allows.  Spectators are only allowed at the ranges we instruct at as per the range’s policies.

  • What is near by? (Lodging, food, fuel) – Our classroom sessions are primarily taught in the Bloomington-Normal area.  There are many hotels, restaurants, and gas stations nearby.

  • Do I need a FOID? – NO!  Legally you are allowed to apply for both your FOID and your concealed carry license at the same time.  For more information on the FOID card, please visit the Illinois State Police’s site on the FOID.

  • What is the cancellation policy? – Because our classes are taught on a donation basis, we do not lose money if you cancel, but please try to contact us at least one week before your class.

  • I’ve completed the class, now what? – Once you have completed the class, it is the students responsibility to prove to the state that they have taken the training required for concealed carry in Illinois.  For more information, please visit the Illinois State Police’s site on concealed carry.

  • What can I do to help out? – The most helpful thing that you can do for Illini Tactical is to make a donation to us.  We will also accept donation of training materials, such as snap caps, blue guns, ammo, one size fits all holsters, etc.  If you would like to help out as an instructor, please contact us.

  • What should I bring with me to class? – Please bring all of the equipment you need to complete the course.  Each course we offer has a unique list of what to bring.  That list is posted on each of the course pages.
